Today, we continue a tradition that began in 1990 with a group of women who gave their time, talent and energy to the community of southwest Louisiana. The Women’s Commission is a non-profit, volunteer organization of women committed to developing the potential of women, promoting volunteerism and community service.  We welcome all women who value our mission.

To accomplish the mission of the Women’s Commission of Southwest Louisiana, Inc. we host an annual Fall Conference at the Lake Charles Civic Center. This day long event is an integral part in educating, motivating and supporting women. Planning is already underway! We invite you to spend a day like no other, so save the date, October 18, 2018.  Be inspired and invigorated!

The Women’s Commission of Southwest La, Inc. is committed to empowering our future young leaders which is why we created a remarkable Junior Women’s Conference. It is designed for young women in grades 8 through 12. This event will feature a fun filled day awakening purpose, igniting passion, building skills, and developing leadership by connecting with other young women in the local community.

A crucial part of our legacy is giving back to the Southwest Louisiana community.  Each year the Women’s Commission awards scholarships to women attending McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Community College. The criteria are based on grade point average, submission of written essays and financial assistance need.  We are proud to bestow the Jack V. Doland Citizen of the Year Award at our fall conference to a woman who has touched the lives of people in her community through selfless service.

We are most proud to highlight our love for the culinary arts. The Women’s Commission of Southwest Louisiana, Inc. developed its signature cook book What’s Cooking.” It’s a taste of the South filled with more than 500 recipes straight from the pantry of the Commissioners. You are welcome to purchase “What‘s Cooking” at the Lake Charles Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau.

It is an honor and privilege to serve as the 2018 President of the Women Commission of Southwest Louisiana, Inc.
